I have recently discovered the epitome in student fine cuisine. Ramen noodles. Not only do they have a wonderful fluffy texture, they also cost less than a dollar per package. I decided to share my experiences with the different brands of ramen noodles available in the Waterloo area.
| Name | Price | Colour | Texture | Taste | Bonuses | Comments |
| Mr. Noodle | $0.50 | Bone white | Really fluffy and round, they even crunch when eaten raw | Surprisingly good. | Comes with a package of flavoured MSG which you might want to throw in to give it a (simulated) taste. About every second time I eat these, I use the flavour package. My favourites are Oriental and Chicken | One of my favourites. Best bang for the buck. |
| Smart Choice | $0.43 | Kinda yellowy | Hard. Flat. | Taste like ass | Just like Mr. Noodle, comes with a simulated flavour package. Doesn't have oriental flavouring, but it does have mushroom | Spend the extra seven cents and get Mr. Noodle. I felt like I was chewing styrofoam when I was eating these. Tried my hardest not to let them come back up. |
| Campbell's Hearty Noodles | $1.09 | White noodles, with a few (real) vegetables to add colour | Soft, flat | Not too bad. | Comes in a cup. You don't need to hunt down any bowls! Just fill the cup up to a line with hot water, and wait. Instant ramen noodle soup. | Pretty good stuff. The cup it comes in is the greatest thing. No need to do dishes after. I usually have one of these around for emergencies. |
